The Chaldean faithful gathered to celebrate Passover / Holy Thursday at St. John’s Church in El Cajon, CA, at 5:00 pm on April 13, 2017, with Father Noel Gorgis, who celebrated the Divine Liturgy and the washing of the feet of 12 people (disciples) whose names were chosen from among the faithful who had signed up to receive this blessing.
In his homily, Fr. Noel Gorgis preached on how Jesus Christ gathered for Passover with His 12 Disciples at the Last Supper, washed their feet, and instituted priesthood. Jesus told His Disciples to do that (consecrating the bread and wine to become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ), for the memory of Him.
Priesthood, a Sacrament that every priest celebrates on this day, is one of the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church, and is one among three Sacraments that cannot be separated only by death. And during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the priest consecrates the bread and wine to become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ (the Sacrifice on the Holy Altar), to be offered at the Communion Rite to the faithful.
