Regarding Financial Audit at St. George Church

A Message from the Bishop’s Office
During a routine financial audit of St. George Church, financial irregularities were identified and, subsequently, investigated more thoroughly.
In keeping with protocol for such matters, based on guidance from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, we notified law enforcement officials who have initiated an investigation. In addition, consistent with recommended best practices, Fr. Wisam Matti and Fr. Anthony Kathawa will be temporarily detached from their current assignment until the investigation is completed. Both priests are still active in our diocese.
Please know that I and church leadership take this matter of stewardship very seriously and are serious about management of people’s funds. We are doing all we can to resolve this matter and are proceeding in a spirit of openness, transparency, and fairness to those involved.
As more information becomes available, I will keep everyone informed.
